how to record a voice memo in a ipod and have it as mp3 on your linux box

Today I just needed to have some pieces of the voice-notes I recorded on my apple ipod touch to include it in a project.
After I dedicated some time to record it I suddenly realized that it was not immediate to take it out of the nice shiny box ;)
here is how you can obtain it in 3 quick steps:

scp root@<ipodip>:/User/Media/Recorder/*.m4a  /tmp

mplayer -ao pcm inputfile.m4a -ao pcm:file="outfile.wav"

lame -h -b 192 "outfile.wav" "resultfile.mp3"

hope you enjoy doing easy things in the most difficult way ;) thanks apple for stimulating our under used brains !

enjoy the winter and ask for help if needed to:
